Lieber Max,
ich habe ein schlechtes Gewissen, dass ich erst nach 4 Wochen den schriftlichen Weg finde. Aber die Installation einer 6 köpfigen Familie und Fortführung der wegen der politischen Entwicklung in der iberischen Halbinsel eiligen portugiesischen Angelegenheiten ist keine Kleinigkeit.
Wegen Deiner Geschwister bist Du zur Zeit bestimmt besser unterrichtet als wir. Immerhin gehe ich Dir zur Ergänzung Deines Bildes die letzterhaltenen Briefe im Original weiter. Diese kamen via Lissabon, sind also ziemlich verzögert. Deiner Schwester habe ich meine Abreise Mitte März als bevorstehend mitgeteilt. Vorher wollte ich nichts verlauten lassen.
Von Deinem Freund (Hochschild oder ähnlich??) aus Spanien kam nie eine Empfangsbestätigung für die Pakete. –
Ich würde mich sehr freuen, wenn Du einmal von Dir hören lassen würdest und einmal zu uns nach Larchmont kämest, wohin wir morgen umziehen. Zu erreichen bin ich am leichtesten unter obiger Adresse. –

Dear Max,
I feel guilty that I am just now writing to you after 4 weeks. However, moving a family of 6 and continuing to deal with Portuguese affairs, which are very urgent due to political developments in the Iberian Peninsula, are no easy feats.
You are probably better informed about your relatives than we are at the moment. In any case, to update you, I will send you the originals of the last letters I received from them. These were sent via Lisbon and are thus quite delayed. I informed your sister of my imminent departure in mid-March. I didn't want to say anything beforehand.
From your friend (Hochschild or something similar??), I didn’t receive a confirmation of receipt for the packages.
I would be very happy if you would write to us and eventually visit us in Larchmont, where we are moving tomorrow. The easiest way to reach me is at the above address.
