My dear Max:
With 7 hours only, failing to end this year, I hate the idea of entering the new one without having given you and your wife our expressions of good look. Meantime, you certainly have arranged the nice little apartment you live in with plenty of flowers on Sunday, the piano on the side wall and a big leather chair for Max after work to sink in. Quite a lot of books in all languages, except the Spanish – in alphabetically order in the book shelves, the savings of a few hundred dollars in bills of 100. In the lexicon of chemistry, and over Max’s desk a lot of unanswered letters, sheets of papers with unfinished ideas. The windows have nice flowered curtains and the newspapersman is ringing the bell at 7 o clock in the morning. Max’s alarm clock is 10 minutes behind, but he shaves himself as quickly that he easily gains the lost time. In not thinking too much, Max will be very happy. If the difficulties were not too great, we had sent some present, some bottles of Chile wine or some practical U.S.A. made Pyrex cooking utensils. We live now 10 months in our own home and it made us great pleasure to establish us and buy one thing after another. We are very pleased with our home and cannot understand if not all guests exclaim: how beautiful. The own home is like the own child: the most beautiful.
Yesterday has been Annemaries last working day for this season and we begin abruptly the preparations for our summer vacations. In a few days we leave again for Vina del Mar, where we intent to spent money and months. This years heat is very disagradable, steadily very hot and as always not one drop of rain all summer long. So we are ripe for the ocean with the wet air and the fresh winds.
Erwin Roberto, now passed 7, has had a good year without any serious sickness, certainly a result of the better air we live since we changed our home. In school he learned with zeal and enjoyed his teacher.
I continued in my profession, and also this year was more difficult than the past one, I can not bother.
Very happy of having received from Ali a Red Cross letter of May, and thought almost question of a few days to have him free, we can imagine the great test of patience put over him, must consume his nerves.
