Ida Mislow's (1896-) German Reich passport, issued on March 14, 1939 by the General Consulate of Germany in Milan, Italy. Ida Mislow was the mother of Kurt M. Mislow (1923-2017).
At this time in Germany, Jewish Germans and stateless Jews were allowed to use only Hebrew first names and family names issued by the Reich Minister of the Interior. If they didn't choose a new Hebrew name, men were assigned the name Israel and women, Sarah. Failure to take these names was punishable by imprisonment. The first page of the passport lists Ida's name as "Sarah Ida Mislow," possibly because of the forcible assignment of Jewish names.
