Black and white portrait of Carl Engler (1842-1925).

Carl Engler (Karl Engler) was a German chemist, academic, and politician. He studied indigo synthesis, petrochemistry, and ozone. He created the Engler viscometer, an instrument used to measure the viscosity in fluids. In 1876, Engler became a professor at the Technical University Karlsruhe. In the late 19th century, Engler was active in the National Liberal Party.
