Neuberg was an early pioneer of modern biochemistry, the director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biochemistry in Berlin, and the founder of the Biochemische Zeitschrift. On account of his Jewish heritage, Neuberg was removed from his position at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biochemistry in 1936 by the Third Reich and immigrated to the U.S.A in 1940.
