Lieber Freund!

Dear Friend,
The day before yesterday, I received a card announcing the birth of your first born child. Congratulations to you and your wife on this happy occasion! I received a postcard from the two Misses Sturzen-Becker, in which they conveyed how kind you were to them. Many thanks for your hospitality! As you know, the older one is my assistant, while the younger one is Pettersson’s assistant. A few days ago, I visited Berlin and stayed with the van’t Hoffs, who along with other colleagues, were extremely courteous to me. Per Ostwald’s suggestion, I also visited Leipzig for one day. Everything was very pleasant. I am doing well. On the 2nd of July, I will travel to Helsinki and hope to be back in Stockholm on the 22nd of the month.
Yours sincerely, Svante Arrhenius
