Hot relaxing plates on drawing machine
- 1946-Feb-46
Close-up view of two hot relaxing plates on a drawing machine used at the DuPont plant in Seaford, Delaware during the early stages of synthetic fiber production and research. The plate on the left, labelled "Electric," is electric-heated while the plate on the right, labelled "Steam," is steam-heated. During production, synthetic fibers were cold-drawn on hot plates in order to strengthen the fiber. The fiber seen here is identified as "Fiber V," later branded as Dacron polyester fiber.
