Max Tishler was a renowned American chemist and industrial leader who revolutionized pharmaceutical manufacturing, particularly during his career at Merck Sharp and Dohme Research Laboratories (Merck & Company). At Merck & Company, he played an instrumental role in a number of pharmaceutical innovations, including the development of a method for large-scale production of riboflavin (Vitamin B2), overseeing Merck's & Company's mass production of penicillin, and the firm's development of a method for synthesizing cortisone. Tishler was awarded over one hundred patents, including those for the synthesis of riboflavin (Vitamin B2) and sulfaquinoxaline.
