Illustrated catalogue for Victorian water pumps, horsepower pumps, windmill pumps, and hydraulic rams. Hydraulic rams were considered one of the greatest technical innovations of the 19th-Century allowing farms and rural areas to pump water, substantially reducing the back-breaking work of lugging water up slopes or hills. The W. & B. Douglas Company was a foundry and machine shop from 1839 until 1842 when they invented a revolving stand pump. W. & B. Douglass was also an early innovator in developing fire hydrants and small fire fighting engines, as well as pumps used by fruit orchards and growers in spraying trees and plants. Digitized content includes select illustrations.
