Kerr dedicated this fifth edition to his brother, Charles Kerr, of Calder-Bank. This printing is the first to contain an index to the whole work.
This edition included so many additions that it was necessary to divide it into two volumes, of which this is the first. Digitized content includes foldouts depicting a Table of the Binary Combinations of Oxygen and Simple Substances, Table of the Combinations of Acetous Acids with the Salisiable Bases in the Order of Affinity, as well as tables presenting chemical nomenclature guidelines and acids in order of electron affinity.
