Lieber Max!
Dr. Sydney Carter, 21. Melstock Road, King’s Health, Birmingham, arbeitete in Klrh. Bei mir über katalyt. Reduction des NaHCO3 zu Formiat.
Prof. Jos. Edw.

(?) Das ist aber auch noch unsicher. Wenn Du in Holland Fachgenossen siehst: (Jaeger u. Lipschitz Groningen, Cohen u.

Dear Max,
Soon after your arrival in London, you should receive a warm greeting letter from your father. I hope your sea voyage was pleasant and you only have positive and great impressions of the cosmopolitan city, the great nation, the free country, and the specialists’ convention. Don’t be shy and talk with everyone that you meet. Consider being social and don’t be rude or reserved out of modesty. The following addresses came to mind:
Dr. Henry Thornton Calvert, Ministry of Health, Whitehall S.W.1., London. He did his doctoral thesis with me in Leipzig on H2O2 ions.
Dr. Sydney Carter, 21 Melstock Road, King’s Health, Birmingham. He worked with me in Karlsruhe on the catalytic reduction of NaHCO3 to formate.
Professor Joseph Edward Coates, University College in Swansea. He worked with Haber (on flames?).
Dr. Harry Medforth Dawson. He worked with Ostwald and van’t Hoff in my day. He is now at Leeds University.
Prof. Henry Georg Denham, Christchurch-College, New Zealand. He did his doctoral thesis under me in Heidelberg on platinum catalysts with Ti*** + H* = Ti**** + ½ H2. He is now in Cambridge with Fajans and recently wrote to me briefly from there.

Sir Harold Hartley, 14. North Court, Wood Street, Westminster, S.W.1, is a professor in Oxford. He works on ultraviolet spectra of laboratory solutions. He was here in 1933 at the Bunsen convention. He has a prominent position at Middland Railway Laboratories.
Dr. George Senter, Birbeck College, Breams Building, Chancery Lane, E.C.4. He did his doctoral thesis under Ostwald on catalase ferments around 1900.
Say hello to our good friends for me, especially the aforementioned gentleman, and Polanyi, Fajans Freundlich etc., if you seem them. Also say hello to H. Mark, Nord, and H.H.F.
Otherwise, there is nothing new to report. Yesterday, I visited Mittasch in Heidelberg. We discussed biological catalysts in depth and also talked occasionally about you. I didn’t hear about anything definite. Frankenburger is likely going to the U.S.A in the service of I.G. However, that is also uncertain. If you see the following colleagues in Holland (Jaeger and Lipschitz in Groningen, Cohen and Kruyt in Utrecht, and Jorissen in Leiden), as well as Gustav, his wife, and Schnell, tell them I said hello.
Warm regards,
Father
Write more often, albeit briefly, or postcards.
It is really hot here at the moment.
