Obituary for Walter H. Nernst (1864-1941) from the New York Times.

Walther Nernst is known as one of the founding fathers of physical chemistry. He is most renowned for his work in thermodynamics, physical chemistry, electrochemistry, and solid state physics. In 1920, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for developing the third law of thermodynamics.
