The Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer was designed to scan the planet's surface from horizon to horizon and map the total ozone in Earth's upper atmosphere. The SBUV/TOMS were mounted together. The instruments were developed for the Nimbus G weather satellite and were (as of September 1977) scheduled to launch in 1978.
