A collection of four alchemical works ascribed to Ramon Llull (c. 1232-1316), of which three are printed here for the first time: Apertorium, Magia Naturalis, and Tertia Distinctio. The fourth treatise, De secretis naturae, seu de quinta essentia, a Llullian version of the work by Joannes de Rupescissa (1310 -1362), had previously been published at Venice and Strassburg. Altogether about eighty alchemical writings are ascribed to Llull; none are now regarded as genuine, and a few have been plausibly ascribed to Raimondo de Tárrega, a near-contemporary of Llull.
This work is a Nuremberg first edition containing historiated woodcut capitals and woodcut diagrams. The book has a half vellum binding with patterned boards and a gilt brown Morocco leather label. It is copiously annotated in late sixteenth and seventeenth-century script in brown ink. Work is digitized in its entirety.
