Volume by Angelo Secchi (1818-1878), an Italian Catholic Priest and pioneer of astronomical spectroscopy. Secchi was one of the first scientists to state authoritatively that the Sun is a star. Le Soleil is Secchi's fifth published book which begins by posing the question, "Qu'est-ce que le Soleil?" (What is the Sun?).
Three foldout illustrations from the work are digitized here.
