Plate XXII: Palmistry chart of right hand
- 1685 (date of publication)
Engraved plate depicting a palmistry/chiromancy chart of the right hand. Includes planetary symbols and names of creases found on the palm for use in the practice of palmistry. The plate references chapters 35 through 50, with chapter 35 entitled "A Rational Demonstration of Chiromantical Signatures." Subsequent chapters between 36 and 50 reference the various lines of the palm with chapter 50 entitled "The Good and Evil Lines, Marks or Characters."
The most popular of William Salmon's numerous books, the title page refers to 25 plates within whereas other copies are also missing plates 3 and 10, as is the case with this particular copy. Select digitized content includes front cover, frontismatter, engraved portrait frontispiece of Salmon (age 27 in 1675), engraved title page (both by W. Sherwin) as well as recto and versos of extant copperplate engravings. Plates 22 and 23 are misbound between plates 17 and 18.
