1961 postage stamp from Cyprus features an illustration of citrus fruit alongside a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (1926–2022), reflecting the island’s agricultural heritage and its historical ties to the British Crown.

The earliest evidence of citron (Citrus medica), an ancestral species from which many modern citrus varieties are derived, comes from seeds discovered at the Hala Sultan Tekke archaeological site in Cyprus, dated to around 1200 BCE.
