In this letter, John F. Bishop relates a conversation with Herbert Hoover, Jr., in which Hoover recommended that Beckman choose "a man who understands the American way of business," rather than a European candidate, to head the German subsidiary.

Herbert Charles Hoover, Jr. (1903 – 1969) worked as a radio and geophysical engineer. He was the son of President Herbert Hoover and served as a special envoy and Under Secretary of State under President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
