Fiber W crimping machine and relaxer
- 1937 – 1938
General view of Fiber W crimping machine and relaxer used during the early stages of nylon production and research at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. Fiber W was a wool-like version of nylon crimped to mimic the form and properties of wool. While some preliminary research and development was conducted on the fiber, DuPont doubted the market potential for synthetic wool and eventually abandoned Fiber W research in favor of its stocking fiber program.
