Probably Mary Torrey Spooner (1864-1956); by descent to her niece Margaret Fay Motley (b. 1882); [to Chester Fisher]. [1] Fisher Scientific, Pittsburgh, PA, acquired by Chester Fisher before 1965 [2]; Fisher Scientific International Inc., Hampton, NH. The Chemical Heritage Foundation, 2000 (from Fisher Scientific). Show notes[1] Chester Fisher's notes on the Fisher Scientific Collection state that the painting came from “Mrs. Thomas Motley,” the niece of "Miss Spooner of Boston," whose family had owned the work for several generations. The Museum of Fine Arts Boston was able to provide the specific identities and life dates for Mary Torrey Spooner (1864-1956) and Margaret Fay Motley (b. 1882). [2] Chester Fisher died in 1965. In 1972, the painting was included in the exhibition "The Fisher Collection at the Franklin Institute" at the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia. |
