Paul Ehrlich won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1908. His most significant achievements include finding a cure for syphilis in 1909 and developing the technique that led to Gram staining bacteria and distinguishing between different types of blood cells.

Hochverehrter Herr.

P. Ehrlich.

Dear Sir,
I must apologize for not yet replying with a thank you note for graciously sending me your important work, which is of particular interest to me. However, I've received too many treatises in the last few weeks.
I am taking the liberty of sending you some of my latest offprints, from which you may infer that I have also attempted to work precisely and in accordance with modern views of chemistry in this obscure area of immunity.

The point of departure for my theoretical considerations is the fact that if poisonous bacilli are left standing for a long time, the saturation capacity for antibodies remains constant, while the bacilli contained in this amount of data are reduced considerably (by half and more). I consider diphtheria poison to be more aerostatic, which has since been confirmed by Madsen with the same substance.
If I ever come to Leipzig, I will take the liberty of visiting you.
With best wishes, and the utmost respect
Your very faithful,
P. Ehrlich
