A second crucible and a larger experiment sit on the fire at left. On the floor sits a hand-bellows, as well as some pieces of firewood and a set of tattered books. Shelves of jars and vials line the back wall, and a paper print has been pinned up. A second assistant enters the humble workshop through a door at right.

Show notes[1] According to typed notes on the back of both pendant paintings: "The picture was taken to the chief conservator Dr. P. Eikemeier, in the period from May 23, 1978 to May 30, 1978, and inspected at the Bayer. Staatsgemäldesammlungen (Dir. U. Doenerinstitute), 8 Munich 2, Meiserstraße 10. According to Dr. Eikemeier, this picture is of excellent quality and should have been painted in the first half of the 18th century, around 1740. The name of the master is unknown; Probably Flemish or Dutch. The work is neither a fake nor a copy, but an excellent composition according to the manner of the Flemish painter Teniers, David, born 1610 in a Anvers, died on 25 April 1690.

Staatsgemäldesammlungen (Dir. u. Doenerinstitute), 8 München 2, Meiserstraße 10, begutachtet. Laut Feststellung des H. Dr. Eikemeier ist das Bild von hervorragender Qualität und dürfte in der 1. Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts, etwa um 1740, gemalt worden sein. Der Name des Meisters ist unbekennt; vermutlich flämischer oder niederländischer Herkunft. Das Werk ist weder eine Fälschung noch eine Kopie sondern eine vorzügliche Komposition nach der Manier des flämischen Maler Teniers, David, geb. 1610 in a Anvers, gest. am 25 April 1690.
