Portrait of French chemist and biologist Jules Raulin (1836-1896). Raulin founded the French chemistry school École supérieure de chimie industrielle de Lyon, currently known as École supérieure de chimie, physique, électronique de Lyon. Raulin was one of Louis Pasteur's (1822-1895) first students. Notably, he studied the nutrition of a mucedinous fungus (mold) known as Aspergillus niger while working with Pasteur. He also researhced a silkworm disease in collaboration with Émile Duclaux (1840-1904), Désiré Gernez (1834–1910) and Pasteur.
