Dropsonde instruments are cylindrical metal devices containing pressure, temperature, and humidity sensors to capture atmospheric profiles and thermodynamic data. The instruments are designed to be dropped from an aircraft over a body of water to measure and track storm conditions as the device falls to the surface. The collected data is then relayed via radio transmission to a computer for weather prediction.
