Lieber Freund!
Dein treuer,
Svante Arrhenius

Dear Friend,
I haven’t heard any new from you in awhile. How are you, your family, and our mutual friends? Everything is going well here at home, as Euler probably told you. We look forward to the New Year, which will hopefully bring long awaited peace. I have put together a little something about internal friction, which I hope will soon be followed by a second. Otherwise it is quite quiet at the institute because the foreigners are staying away. My assistant Demly received a scholarship for America. With the warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our home to yours.
Yours truly,
Svante Arrhenius
