General view of an improved gas pressure spinner used during the early stages of nylon production and research at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. This spinner unit was the first heated by DOWTHERM, a glycol-based heat transfer fluid. The control panel on the right was used to regulate the temperature and speed of the machine, as nylon chips were melted and then exposed to pure nitrogen gas under pressure in order to produce nylon filament.
