Two booklets containing nylon samples dyed in various shades. Samples represent the hosiery variety available for purchase at the Harrison Hosiery Company located in Philadelphia. The booklets contain samples for seasonal fashion shades: Fall and Winter 1952-1953 and Spring and Summer 1955 hosiery colors. The Fall and Winter pamphlet includes a description of each nylon tone and complementary styles and colors.
Developed in the late 1930s by a team at E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company headed by Dr. Wallace Carothers, Nylon was the first totally synthetic fiber. Developed to be a replacement for natural silk, Nylon is a simple monomer chain polymer created by polymerizing a polyamide in a salt mixture.
